Holiday Flurries

Happy holidays everyone! The first flurries of the year are hitting Pittsburgh just as my flurry of holiday print orders is dying down. Whew. Thanks so much and I hope all prints meant for presents get there on time and bring tears of joy to your loved ones. There had better be tears.

Revel in the Wild Joy Offset Print

I just got some prints from Jonathan LeVine Gallery in today to sell in my Etsy store. They are a little late to the game for the holidays. Although if I get the order out by Monday or Tuesday, there is a good shot to get it there if you're in the U.S.
The prints are of Revel in the Wild Joy. They are larger than my usual prints. 24" x 24" image size and 26" x 26" print size. They are offset lithograph prints instead of giclée prints and they are fantastic looking. Since they are larger than my Giclée prints, I'll have to ship them through shipping tubes. But since they are offset prints, they are a hardier lot and will be fine... and they won't take a year to flatten out which is nice.

Well, a couple prints have sold out on my Etsy store in the last week which is totally awesome with a lot of overwhelming thrown on top. Lots of orders! So so so many orders. Anyone that ordered a print and is reading this, please be patient. I've enlisted my brother to help me, but we are a small operation here at Kehoe Headquarters. I usually get print orders out in a week or less, but I'll need some more time for these ones.
And to add to the madness of print orders, I decided to post the Lord of Ghouls print as well. With all the sold out prints, I felt like the store was feeling a little empty.

All Turns to Brilliance

Just got back from the Great Pacific Northwest had a trip full of art openings, bourbon, wine, fried olives, spicy meatballs, wings and chicken liver. Well, only one art opening, but a plenitude of the other things... and I didn't cry once or get into any dancing knife fights. Which is a good change of pace from most of the trips I take. Maybe it was because I didn't wear my sleeveless jean jacket vest this time around. That thing always gets me into trouble.
The opening was awesome and got to meet some new folks and catch up with others. Charlie Immer's work was wild and wonderful and I wish he could've been there. Hi-Fructose was there and had a nice post of the show on their site.

I was going to make a post on the blog about a new print release, but one of those prints already sold out. I released All Turns to Brilliance and On the Banks of Broken Worlds on Thursday and the All Turns to Brilliance Print is already sold out. Crazy! Fastest I've ever sold out of a print. I've got some AP's of the print though and I'll post those soon.
UPDATE: APs sold out as well.

I'm going to post another print, Lord of Ghouls, on Tuesday to take it's place.

Lord of Ghouls - Arise Feral Night, Roq La Rue

Only a week before I'll be shipping all my work off to Roq La Rue Gallery. The house and studio always seem so empty after a whole body of work is carefully and obsessively packed into huge boxes and shipped across the country. Travel well my children. Almost all the painting is done and I'm very pleased with the work. Between this show and the LeVine show in March, this is shaping up to be my favorite year of art making ever. Woo! Ouch, just kicked my printer over. Got so excited. Yeah!!

In preparation for the labor and expenses of getting a whole body of work across the beautiful expanse of these United States, I'm posting a special and very limited edition print, "Great Heights of the Young Dreamer" to my Etsy store. Good Things are a Comin'

Learned some good things this week. Some of which I can share and some of which are, as of now, classified... of which some of which is of a dangerous and slightly nefarious nature... of which you would be in grave danger if even a smidgen of a pinch of eave is dropped into your ear... of which I should stop talking about right now lest my lips get loose and sink any ships kind enough to dock in the harbor of this here blog. Speaking of, I'll get to the point of this particular blog post which is... hmmmm. Let me backtrack... Oh yes!

My next print with Tiny Showcase is tonight at 7:30 Eastern Time. If you are a Tiny Showcase lover as I am, be sure to check it out. My last few Tiny Showcase prints have sold out very quickly so we're doubling the edition from 100 to 200. Huzzah!

I also learned that I'll be showing with Charlie Immer at my show at Roq La Rue in October. He was originally scheduled for September, and I remember thinking, "Damn. Wish he would get pushed back a month so I could show with him." And here we are. So either it's either very fortunate, or I get any wish granted to me if I say, "Damn" in front of it. Life is Blur

The best way to write a blog is with a glass of bourbon, a tobacco pipe, a rifle, a sleeping dog and a general sense of manliness. Incidentally, I have all those things at this very moment so this is shaping up to be a good blog post. A lot has happened since my last blog post. Kind of an overwhelming amount of stuff actually. Bourbon sip. Quick overview.

-Winter was relatively mild. I'm realizing that scheduling big shows for Spring is awesome because I just stay in and work all winter and it just flies on by.
-Having a two-wheel, rear-wheel drive truck in the winter leads to a lot of fish-tailing and anxiety-riddled dreams/nightmares.
-Drove out to Michael Hsiung's opening in Philly and then brought him back to Pittsburgh to eat hoagies and play Mortal Kombat.
-Took an amazing trip to Mexico with my girlfriend, Ash, and spent a week on the beach and in the pool deciding what to drink next.
-I don't know if I got Montezuma's Revenge, but it was at least one of his cousins.

As for these days, I'm still plugging away at the Roq La Rue show. I've also got a piece in the upcoming Blab! Show also at Roq La Rue. It's based around the infamous child whipper, Krampus. The show opens August 12th. More info here:

My show in New York at Jonathan LeVine Gallery was a smashing good time. Thanks to everyone that came out! I was in a little pain at the opening due to the previous night's activities. Anyone ever heard of a pickle back? It's when you take a shot of whiskey followed by a shot of pickle juice. Sounds weird but it's delicious and smooth... too smooth. You lose track after a while. Anyways, I've posted all the new work to my Flickr account so check it out. I have to say, it's my favorite collection of paintings yet.

Now I'm going to do nothing for a few days then get back to work. I have my Roq La Rue show coming up in October. May as well get busy now to reduce the pain of the panic-riddled later months.

I finished my last painting for the show on Saturday. Feels good. Real good. My brain is completely spent though so I'll have to deprive you of my normal bad jokes and just give the show info. I hope you can live with that. If not, I'll be at the opening so you'll have an opportunity to bring it to my face.
I'll be heading out to New York soon to drop off the rest of the work and to arrange paintings in a pleasing fashion. I hope to see many of you at the opening.

Long Lost Crow

I just found out recently that Black Maria Gallery in LA closed it's doors and one of my paintings was lost in the shuffle. After some investigating and some major help from the awesome Michael Hsiung, the piece was recovered and it's on it's way back to Pittsburgh. It's already pretty well known but Michael Hsiung is the man. In honor of his actions, I give these words:

Mayor Crow's Escape from Calamity

Winter has rolled in and Fall is but a cold, orange mush-ball. If I didn't live in a quiet, residential neighborhood, I would blow this pumpkin up with some M-80's to send Autumn out in style. Instead, I struggled to get this blob off my porch because it was frozen solid to this mantle. I eventually landed a solid rage-chop to it and it broke off and rolled into someone else's yard. Their problem now.

2011 is here. Woo hoo! I'm actually super excited for this year. I have my Jonathan LeVine Gallery show coming up in March. Gaahhh! Whew... got a little pang of panic there. Lots to do still. The last couple months of a solo show are always a blur. Mostly because of tears of every assortment. Frustration, accomplishment, panic, revelation, fear, joy, anxiety, inspiration, hunger... I always forget to eat in the scramble mode. If anyone is ever in the Pittsburgh area, bring me food.
I'm calling the show, "Strange Wanderings." The show is mostly inspired by my cross country move from Portland to Pittsburgh. I saw sights that equally inspired and intimidated the hell out of me along the way. So there's definitely a pinch of grandness and awe in each piece. I've finished two of my larger pieces and I'm super excited about them. I've got a bunch more in the works in varying stages of completion that should mostly be finished by the end of the month. All in all, things are going pretty awesome. Can't wait to show these babies off!

I've also locked up a date for Roq La Rue in Seattle for October of this year. Can't say how excited I am about this. I've been a big fan of that gallery for some time and it's amazing I get the opportunity to show there. And an added bonus is that the show is in October which is prime Kehoe season.

I also just posted a commission I had been working on since last summer. It's called "Parting the Darkness" for a fine chap in Australia named Karl Hill. I also made some prints out of this piece so check it out in my Etsy shop. In other Etsy news, I added 3 prints from the series I did for Sebastian Foster. I got to keep 10 prints of the edition for myself, so I decided to throw some of them up in Etsy.

Hello Pittsburgh, Hello Fall

As I sip on my delicious pumpkin ale, feel the cool welcome of Autumn in the air, and breathe deep the smells of fallen leaves and wood fires that are meandering into my nose holes, I say, Welcome Fall! You are a brief but glorious lover that is kind enough to make sweet, beautiful love to each and every one of my senses once a year.... before leaving me twisting in the dark coldness of winter. I love you. Please don't leave me!!

Yes, Fall has just begun and I'm happy to be back home in Pittsburgh to enjoy it. Pennsylvania is an amazing place for all things Fall and I'll be looking to enjoy as much as I can. Fall camping is definitely happening in the next couple weeks. Yes!
I survived the cross country tour of America and spectated the shit out of some beautiful land. Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Devil's Tower and the Badlands were all on display for the Kehoe caravan. I took over 800 pictures and would love to share them, but I took so many that it's overwhelming me. Damn this digital age of frivolous and unfettered picture taking.

Now that I'm back, I'm full speed ahead on my next show at Jonathan LeVine in March. More on that to come.

Conversation Amongst the Innocent

I've also just released a new print of one of my pieces from the recent Blab Show, Onward Again My Friend. I decided to shrink it down to 18" x 18" with a 1" border so the print comes out to 20" x 20" This is much easier and more affordable to frame since it's a pretty standard size. Those custom framing jobs add up and I'm trying not to add to the pain. It's a limited edition of 40 and is available at my Etsy store.

Whew. Take it easy. One thing at a time. I'm officially leaving Portland this Tuesday to move back to my hometown of Pittsburgh. There is much to be done and not much time to do it. My brother Ben is in town to visit and to eventually drive back to Pittsburgh with me and all my belongings. My mom and my grandmother are also on the way here to help me move back so it'll be a Kehoe caravan. Just follow the smell of smoke and the sounds of screaming to know where we are in the country. The next few days will be a blur but the drive should be a good time. There's a whole bunch of paintings to ship on Monday and a whole lot of explanation of where they are going, but that will have to wait until a later update. For now, I'm posting the last small painting of the summer that I'm selling off my Etsy store. It's called "Forest Watcher" and is a 10" x 10" Oil Painting on wood going for $750. I have it up my store but the store will be shutting down Monday night. Then my store will reopen whenever I end up in Pittsburgh... so probably a couple weeks.

This might be the last update I make in Portland, so I give a huge salute to you Portland. It's been an awesome time and I know I'm a better person for living here the last 2 years. I shall miss you and your fresh air.

Run to the Swimming Holes

Summer in Portland is an awesome slice of fir-scented heaven. For all the rain we put up with all year, it stays clear and sunny all summer. Normally the temperature is pretty modest and pleasant, but every once in a while some high heat rolls in and slaps you in the face like a hot jerk. Honestly, as hot as it gets here it's nothing compared to heat out East with all the sticky humidity. So I can handle some dry heat... especially if some river swimming is involved. Although, working in an attic studio with little tiny windows is not the best place to be during a heat wave. It definitely reached over 100 degrees in the studio today. After a while I started passing out sporadically and waking up in random places with dirt and wood chips all over my mouth. One time I woke up with a frozen chicken pot pie in my mouth. I think I was attracted to the coldness of it.

I've got the Blab! Show 2010 coming up next month at Copro Nason. The pieces are done and waiting to be shipped out. The show is chock full of amazing talent so if you're in the LA area, I recommend you get on those scary freeways and make you way over there. I wish I could, but I'll be on the road moving all my belongings back East.

Last and maybe most dangerous of all is my brother, Ben Kehoe. What he did was so heinous and vile that it's a crime just to repeat what he did. A friend of ours kept insisting for Ben to tell him what he did. When Ben finally relented and told him, that poor friend bled out of his ears and slipped into a coma he still hasn't recovered from. I was feeling a bit annoyed and down today because I kept forgetting things and had to keep going back to the house and back to the shipping place and back to the house again... one of those days. Then a Paul Simon song came on, the sun peeked through the clouds and everything felt better. I even saw some teenage goth girl smelling the flowers. That was a sure sign to snap the hell out of it. And I did. All is well.

Photo Shoots, Dark Camping and the Pink Eye Threat

I've had a pretty eventful couple weeks since last I posted. I had a photoshoot a couple Sundays back with Tatiana Wills and Roman Cho for their Heroes and Villains project. It was awkward yet pretty damn fun and I was definitely honored to be involved. I got to meet some awesome artists like Blaine Fontana, Above, and Scott Musgrove, who was in town from Seattle. I saw Joshua Keyes just leaving the studio when I got there, but I managed to jot down his license plate number as he peeled out of there. I'll be seeing you soon Joshua Keyes.

I woke up last Friday with my left eye looking beet red. It looked like half my face was stoned. Since I didn't wake and half bake that morning, I knew something was amiss. I spent the morning looking up symptoms of pink eye and was horrified by these pictures of irritated eyes oozing elmer's glue. Good God. I spent the next couple hours washing my hands, burning my pillow sheets and debating whether or not to quarantine myself, fearing of spreading an epidemic. My pal Evan B Harris was booked to play a show at the Columbia Gorge Winery that weekend, which included some camping, so I decided to throw caution to the wind, stock up on some hand sanitizer and head to the hills. I just had to be careful not to poke other people in the eyes and to be wary of unprotected butterfly kissing. Glad I ended up going because the pink eye ended up being nothing but a temporary allergic reaction that just made me look creepy and contagious for a day or two.

The winery was beautifully located amongst sweeping hills and had an impressive view of Mt Hood. It was an amazing place to walk around and camping was pretty fun during the daytime... but seriously faltered when the sun went down. There ended up being no bonfire for some god forsaken reason so everyone just sat around in the dark and listened to music. It's a good thing the only food I brought were smores and bratwursts to cook over a non-existent fire. Needless to say, my tent echoed with the throngs of an empty and angry stomach that night. At least the marshmallows made a comfy pillow... a pillow of disappointment and unfulfilled tastiness. But all things considered, it was a good escape out of the city.

One of my smaller prints has sold out so I've added another little guy. It's from one of the pieces I've done over the summer called, "Budding Youth." It's a small edition of 30 and it's available in my Etsy Store.

My Lord, It's Hot

I'm in Pittsburgh for a couple weeks to celebrate the birthday with the twin brother and it's feeling a lot like summer here.. Over the weekend, I had a great birthday BBQ, ate a ton and only waited 5 minutes before I jumped in the pool. I ended up cramping and sinking to the bottom of the deep end, but one of my friends found me after a few minutes. No big deal. Now I'm just kind of lying about and enjoying the time off. Figured I'd write a blog entry since I'm horribly, neglectful blog host.
This summer should be a great one in the Pacific Northwest. My schedule is a little light so I'm planning some camping and maybe a drive out to Big Sur. Always wanted to go there. I'm doing a couple pieces for the next Blab! Show in the Fall which is always awesome. My next big show is at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in March 2011. That's always a good time. So I'll be hard at work for that show very very soon.
Since I don't have a heavy workload this Summer, I've been working on some small paintings in my free time. I plan on coming out with a few this Summer just to sell in my Etsy store. I just finished a small 8" x 8" painting and posted it on Etsy. Here's a link if you're interested.

Spring Cometh

We did it! The long tunnel of winter has opened into the budding glory of spring. Huzzah! I burnt all my jackets in celebration and will never wear them again... next winter might be a tough one. Damn these rash and impulsive celebrations. Had yet another crazy person yell at me while walking down the street. This guy was yelling, "Don't you look at me! Don't you ever fucking look at me! Ever!" Over and over and over. I wasn't even looking at him at all until he started yelling at me. Not the best way to go unnoticed. He ended up standing in the middle of Morrison street and yelling the same thing at every car that passed by so I didn't take it personally.
Portland is looking extra magnificent these days and it's doing it's best to distract me from work. I've given in to some extra long coffee breaks on the balcony. I have my first showing in Portland next weekend at a place called Grass Hut run by the ever awesome Bwana Spoons. The show is called Balls Out and opens April 2nd. Here's the postcard:

Heading to Blizzard Land

Tomorrow I head to the airport for the midnight plane to New York. I'm taking Jet Blue so maybe I'll watch some Olympics to pass some time. Or it might be a good time to get some sleep... Hopefully I don't get the night terrors this time. Air travelers are so tense these days and don't take too well to some sleeping, long-haired, half-asian guy thrashing his arms around and screaming bloody murder. Lighten up people. Flying used to be fun.

The reason for my trip to New York is to attend the Jonathan LeVine Gallery 5th Year Anniversary Show. I still have my work here in Portland so it's going to travel with me in a very secure and well-packaged box. I was hoping to get these pieces done earlier so it wouldn't be last minute, but that didn't end up happening. As hard as I may try, it always comes down to the wire even though I've been working on these guys for a while. Sometimes I suspect my own paintings are trying to make me look like a fool... But they always pull through in the end and it's hi-fives all around. I dropped them off to get photographed today so I'll have images to share soon. I'll post them on my Flickr tomorrow.

Renewing Hope

The print I get asked about most is an oldie but goodie called "Finding Hope Here in the Clearing." It's one of my most optimistic pieces and I think we can all use a little slice of that these days. Today was an especially beautiful day in Portland, and I felt pretty good about the world as I drank my coffee in the sunshine. Then I gave an old lady a hi-five and did a whistling somersault across a busy street followed by the jazziest jazz hands ever. From my bio, you may know that I am former master of jazz hands. I haven't used my jazz hands in years... not since that tragic day. I can still hear the screams of children and horses when I close my eyes. But the day called for it and I felt that my moves kept the weather nice. No thanks necessary. I'm just glad no one got hurt.

I know some people missed out on the first run so I'm running a second edition of it, but closer to the original size. I'm keeping it at a very small run of 25 and after that, it's gone forever. Go to my Etsy store for more info:

First blog entry of the decade. This is monumental. So far this decade has been pretty low key. After the madness of New Years, I've been hiding out from the Portland rain, painting and watching Deadwood for the millionth time... love that show. Year by year I feel less inclined to go out and hang out with other human beings. If this doesn't improve, I'll be chasing people off my land in my long johns. At least I'll finally get to use my rifle.

My show at Thinkspace was a great time. I spent most of the week in LA setting up my installation and playing Mortal Kombat with Michael Hsiung. I created a character on the game named DangerGuy and he brought the pain and vanquished many foes. Michael is also a blogster of Fecal Face so you can see photos of the show here.

Of course it rained the night of the opening and since it only rains 2 times a year in Los Angeles, people tend to stay indoors. It's weird that every time I visit LA it decides to rain. And by weird I mean fucking stupid. But I gotta say that the turn out was still awesome and the opening was a blast!

I'm working on a couple pieces for the Jonathan LeVine 5th year anniversary show that's opening on February 27th. I got some cheap plane tickets and I'll be attending the opening for sure. Can't miss this one! Come out and celebrate if you're in New York and feel like celebrating. Besides that, I got a couple commissions in the works and a new print design for BLDG on the way. Looks like I might have some open time during the middle of the year, so if anyone is looking for a commission, this is primo commissioning time for me.

Since the economy fucking blows, I'm releasing 3 small 8" x 8" prints for $35 in my Etsy store. I'm also cutting down the edition sizes of my prints to 35 to get them up and moving so I can plug new ones in faster and in exciting fashion. Here's 2 of them.

I think I've just connected my blog, via RSS Reed, to my Twitter account so my updates on here will show up there and I can bother even more people in an even easier manner than ever before. I almost understand what an RSS feed is, but I think I figured out enough to use it. If this doesn't work, I'll hate RSS feeds forever for making a fool out of me. I wonder if I'm getting closer to the age where new technology seems too confusing and stupid to bother with.
I'll be in LA next week. Holy shit what happened to November? Tomorrow comes the day of dread for me when it comes to shows. The packing and shipping of new paintings. The process itself is a pain with all the bubble wrap and the cutting of two boxes to make into one big box to fit all the paintings, etc. But the stress of having five months of work flying across the country and zooming down highways is not a fun time. I usually kill a goat or two to appease the shipping gods.

update: I have also put Twitter updates on the side of my blog. Insanity. So when I update on the blog, it updates Twitter and shoots back over to the blog and updates that I have just updated. This loop might just break the internet.

December is almost here... where did the time go? Oh yeah, I've been in the studio drinking coffee, painting and listening to Harry Potter audio books all day. Not a bad way to spend the day. Throw in some hot chocolate and a space heater and we are in business.

Portland has been absolutely beautiful the last week or so. But the Portland rain has moved in with a fury and it looks to be a soggy week ahead. All the more reason to stay in and get some paintings done!

Print news. The print I was working on with BLVD fell through and we decided to go a new direction with it which is really exciting. I'm going to get them over an original design instead of rehashing an existing painting. Should be fun! In light of the new direction, this frees up "The Wandering of the Wicked" piece so I am releasing it myself as a print. It'll be another larger 22" x 22" print. Check out the shop for more info>>>

Tis the Season

Fall is here and Fall is wonderful. I took the picture above at Multnomah Falls in Oregon. It's only 20 minutes outside of Portand and I'm sure many Portlandians have visited. It was my first time there and I'm glad I waited for Fall to kick in.

I'm in the last month or so of my upcoming solo show at Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles... going crazy right now! But very, very excited for this show. The show is called "The World Unseen and Those In Between." I've been delving into the spirit world in some of my recent paintings and this show will be all about ghosts and demons and... acorns. I'll be posting a couple preview images on my Flickr site soon. Keep posted.

On the print front, I decided to release the "March of the Exiled" print as a second edition. I wanted to make a larger version of it and it looks too amazing not to go ahead with it. It's a smaller edition of 30 and is going for $125.

Bigger is Better

My favorite season is in the air. I can see it. I can smell it. I can feel it... Or maybe that's just gas. It's sad to say goodbye to summer, but Fall is officially the shit and I'm standing by it.
I am finally releasing 2 bigger prints of two of my favorite pieces in my Etsy store... word. They are 20" x 20" with a 1" white border, so that's some 22" x 22" print goodness if my math doesn't fail me. That's special and they are going for $135. The prints won't be ready to ship until the end of next week, but I decided to put them in the store a little early. Get these babies ready to go!

Moving Pains and Prints Sales

It's been a busy couple weeks. Some of it fun busy... and some not so fun.

I got to go down to LA for the Blab! show which was amazing. I got to hang out with the ever awesome Michael Hsiung. He even let me sleep on his couch and made me eggs in the morning. What a guy. Finally got to meet Monte Beauchamp as well. He's the brains behind Blab! and been meaning to meet him for a while. The shitty part of the trip was me oversleeping my 6:00 am flight to LA... maybe whiskey drinking wasn't the best idea the night before but what the hell? I had my piece for the Blab! show with me so I HAD to make it to LA by that afternoon. Fuck. The airline tried to put me on standby but I needed a concrete plan of action so I bought another flight with a different airline. Fucking hell. Then on the way back to Portland, I go to get my boarding pass and they tell me that because I missed my flight to LA, they canceled my return flight to Portland. Major FUCKERY! After another $150 to book a new flight, I was on my way home... That extra hour of sleep ended up costing me as much as a new Playstation 3 with a couple sweet games. Instead I got a poorly printed boarding pass and more bottled up rage. Flying used to be fun right?
I also drove up to Seattle last weekend for the Travis Louie opening at Roq La Rue. I've been wanting to see his work in person for some time and I was not disappointed. How he gets that delicate of line work is beyond me. I've met Travis on the Internets before but never in person. Meeting him in person was a delight and he signed a new book of his for me called Curiosities... my god does he have some good penmanship!

I'm in the process of finding a new place to live in Portland, so I've been obsessively refreshing Craigslist apartment listings all day for the last month. Also checking out a bunch of apartments here and there has been pretty interesting. There always seemed to be one glaring factor that ruined the place. Whether it's the overbearing landlady that made us take off our shoes before entering the apartment, the extra small house that looked bigger on the posting with a creepy dog man living in the basement, the dirty litterbox smelling carpet, bedrooms to small, living room too small, and on and on. Still kind of fun though in a strange way.

Print Explosion in your Face!

I just survived a record heatwave here in Portland. It reached a balmy 106 degrees earlier this week and people were freaking out! Almost every store sold out of air conditioners and people were checking into hotels just for the AC's. Madness. It got so hot, that I had to sleep with my fan in my bed. Don't worry, it was consensual... I think. Anyways, I had 2 fans blasting, my window wide open and I wake up to my landlord and the building manager inspecting my apartment. They walk into my bedroom with me hugging a fan in my bed in nothing but my underwear. I jolted awake and they ran out apologizing and all I could think to say was, "I had a late night last night!" I thought it was the afternoon, so I was embarrassed to be sleeping so late, but it ended up only being 9:20 in the morning... assholes! I guess they had knocked, but whose going to hear anything with a fan blasting right in their face!
I did have to move my work into my apartment since my studio probably reached over 120 degrees... no joke. Probably would've seen visions of spirit animals if I spent more than an hour up there. In the time it took me to get my supplies out of there, my body started weeping sweat.

I originally planned to release three, but it was too hot for my brain to decide which ones to release, so I just decided to release a bunch. Why not? I'll have some bigger prints coming out around September so more on that to come.
I'm also going to be partnering up with the BLDG to release a print of the piece, "The Wandering of the Wicked" in the near future. It'll be an 18" x 18" print with a 2" border, screen printed on Stonehenge 100% Cotton Rag paper. Nice! What a Small World this Small World Is

My friend and studio mate, Evan, recently finished a commission for a fine fellow going by the name of Nick. The painting had been finished for some months, but Nick was crazy bonkers busy touring with his band, Death Cab for Cutie. That's an awesome kind of busy. So last friday, Death Cab for Cutie was stopping in Portland to play an outdoor show at McMenamins Edgefield, which is a pretty cool spot by the way. To take advantage of this, Evan decided to go to the show and bring the piece of commissioned artwork to Nick while the window was open and the gettin' was good. Evan asked me, "Would you want to go to a free Deathcab for Cutie show?" to which I replied, "I'm your huckleberry."
Evan also decided to bring a bottle of wine to Nick of which he designed the label for. It was quite a sight to see Evan trying to get a big painting and a bottle of wine through security that have been firmly trained to slap any exceptions in the face. Following much deliberation, Evan was carted off to a different gate and all was well. After New Pornographers played, we decided to take advantage of our backstage passes and get some refreshments. Whist backstage, I meet the manager of Death Cab, Jordan, and it turns out he just bought one of my paintings from my show at Jonathan Levine Gallery. How random is that? I love when these happenings... happen. Then Jordan escorted us to the stage and we got to watch the show from the side of the stage. A good summer night indeed.

On to news of the official manner. I'll be releasing 3 new prints in August so keep posted. The store is looking mighty sad these days, but brighter days are ahead.

Journeymen Return Home

Got back from San Fran on Monday and have slowly been putting my life back together since. Had a super great time in San Fran and will probably post more specific details on the trip later. One highlight though was a shirtless man running up to me screaming, "YOU'RE PART OF THE REASON I'M CASTRATED!" and proceeded to punch things around me. No joke. The funny thing about that is that I really think I was part of the reason he was castrated... I used to run with a pretty rough crowd. On the way back, Evan and I traveled up the coast and camped out in the Redwoods. Wow! What a magical place. The picture above is me hanging out with Paul Bunyun... a real man. All in all, a full success of a trip.

On to some other pressing issues. As I've already hinted at, I'm going to be releasing 3 new prints shorty, but they won't be happening until the beginning of next month. I'm doing a whole restructuring thing and will have a whole new deal for August. The prints have gotten so popular that they started taking over my life... which is awesome! But doesn't leave much time to actually get any painting done. So I'm bringing someone in to take over the print business for me... Yes, that's right. I'm going to have some poor person under my employ. Hahahaha. Her name is Heidi Maas and she's an absolutely amazing human being and should treat you just fine. If she doesn't, she'll have hell to pay! So in light of having someone else doing my prints for me, I will have to bump up the prices moderately. Just $10 more so I can maintain keeping them affordable for everyone and make sure my new employee doesn't end up on the street with all the crazy castrated people running around. But I will of course be around and you can still email me about all things prints. This also solves the problem of me dealing with releasing the larger prints I have planned... now someone else can deal with all that madness and I can sell them directly from my store. Awesome!

Speaking of prints! Since it's going to be a couple weeks until the new prints and my store is looking a Depression Era grocery store, I released all my remaining AP prints of all previously sold out editions. There's only a few of each and after these AP's, they will be gone forever... forever... for... ever. So if you missed out on anything, now is the time to jump on it. I usually keep these AP's for request, but I have to put something in the store! Plus, it'll be good to start fresh in August and bring in a whole new era of printiness. Also, since I've got some help now, I will focus on getting some T-Shirts added to the store. Hopefully by the fall. Hi-fives all around.

Print Madness and San FRan

So as many of you know, the March of the Exiled print was released and sold out in a little over a week! I have never dealt with amount of orders at once! Thanks you all so much and thanks for being patient waiting for your orders. I spent a whole day just cutting down cardboard and weeping. My local Fedex guys were equally annoyed and impressed by the sheer number of packages I dropped off in one day.

I was not going to release a print for a bit but since everything in my shop is pretty much sold out, I will be releasing 3 more in Etsy shop in a couple weeks. I'm also looking to get a couple of these pieces printed larger so that will come further down the road... and I may possibly do these prints through someone else so I don't have to deal with shipping the larger prints.

I will be shutting down the shop for a few days starting Sunday night. I'm on my way to the Bay Area with Evan B. Harris to haul all his work to his upcoming solo show at Johansson Projects in Oakland. I'm going to stick around for the fourth of July so hopefully I can blow some shit up or at least watch shit get blown up. Should be a good time. I do have some work that's staring me in the face, but fuck it... I need to get out of the studio some time this summer.

Also, I'm going to start guest blogging on Juxtapoz.com. I agreed to write some ridiculous shit every once in a while so I might be writing about my upcoming jounrey to the Bay. Keep posted.

March of the Exiled Print

I'm releasing a print from the Living in Twilight show and they are all ready to go... and look great! They are around 18" x 12" and the whole print size is 13" x 19" and are going for $60. These are my biggest prints to date but I do have plans to make some even larger prints in the future.
I was going to post these on Etsy today but it'll have to wait a couple weeks. I'm heading home to Pittsburgh to celebrate my birthday with my twin brother Ben and I'm also getting my wisdom teeth removed. Beautiful! So I'll be gone for 2 weeks and I decided to wait until I got back to post them on Etsy. I'm putting my Etsy store in vacation mode in 2 days anyways so what's the point? Thanks to everyone who came and responded and emailed and everything related to my show! I had a blast at the opening and got to meet many wonderful people. I even relatively controlled my whiskey lust and remained a very good citizen that night. Even after my friend Angelique gifted me with a whole bottle of bourbon at the opening. Devil woman! The last time she did that, I woke up at a friend's place with cuts and bruises all over my body and no sheets on the bed... because I threw up all over them. I'd like to think I'm growing wiser in my years... or maybe I'm just better at drinking. For those that haven't had a chance to check the show out yet please visit the Jonathan LeVine Gallery site.

Next on the list of things to do is a piece going to the Crazy 4 Cult show at Gallery 1988 in LA. It's a show based on artists representations of cult classics and I've got mine in the works. The show opens on July 16th 2009 and should be quite the event. I think it's hosted by Kevin Smith or something. Strange! Then I'm going to get real busy on my next upcoming solo show at Thinkspace in LA. That show will open on December 11th and I'll be posting plenty more on that one.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the amazing response to the print sale. I sold out of them in 4 days! Amazing! I ended up getting everything photographed and shipped and all is well indeed. I got a call from Jonathan LeVine Gallery yesterday and they confirmed that all my work arrived safe and sound. Whew. I'm always in a state of anxiety when I ship that much work across the country. And this was by far the most I've ever had to ship out at once. Well, all the bigger work is done and now I'm plugging away at some smaller pieces which is really fun. I hope everyone in the New York area and surrounding can make it out. I should be getting the postcards soon and I'll post it on this here blog when I do.

So I've finished all the large work for my upcoming show at Jonathan LeVine. Yeah!!! That is the great news... and the even greater news is that I think these pieces are the greatest I've done. But now the issue is getting these babies over to New York. I've got to photograph them all and then get them all packed up and shipped off. God, I hate this part of doing a show. This being the tail-end of my working on the show, I'm basically running on stale and dirty money fumes. SO I decided to have a little sale at my Etsy store to raise some funds and get these bastards to New York on time. The big city.
I'm selling any two prints available at my store for $70 which take $20 off each print. I'm no genius but I swear that's a mighty fine deal. I'm only doing 15 of these sale items so get them while you can.... Hmmm. Weak pitch. Where's the Sham Wow guy when you need him?

There's no way to type that show title with out all caps. This is a group show that I'm participatign in that benefits the ASPCA which in turn helps animals in need. With the recent downturn in the economy, even more animals are being abandonned and are in need of new homes. The show is curated by Aliya Naumoff and is a great mix of painting, sculpture and photography. The show opens February 18th at Fuse Gallery in New York City.

Well, it looks like the human race has survived yet another year. *Hi-Fives* I hope everyone celebrated accordingly and with out the need of a police escort home. I just got home to Portland from a couple weeks off in the homeland of Pittsburgh. Good times indeed but I'm excited to get back to work on my upcoming show at Jonathan Levine.

I'm also finally releasing one of my favorite pieces, "Noble Voices Lie Hidden and Mute" as a print. It's been on the block for a while so I'm excited to finally have it out there.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I went up to visit some friends in Seattle and had dinner with them and the mighty Paulus family. Food, drink, ping pong, creepy cat puppets, belly twirling: you name it, we had it in spades. Good times indeed. Now I am back in Portland officially starting my solo show at Jonathan Levine's in May... whew. But as with most shows, May isn't nearly far enough and I'll soon be in panic/crying/sleep-deprived-mode finishing the last pieces up for the show. In order to cut down on the great and final madness, I'll try to disperse the crying and panic evenly over the next few months. But in all seriousness,very excited to get it under way!

Also, I released a new print on my Etsy store of the "Cost of Modern Living" piece. People are digging the blues and the printer is happy to finally be using some cyans for once. Nice. I'm also temporarily housing one of my brother Ben's prints until his Etsy store goes up. The piece is called, "Loner Days." Love it.

So I landed in Portland a couple weeks ago and I'm finally settling in a bit. It's so weird being in a completely foreign place... kind of like it but also kind of unnerving. But I love this city and I'm having a great time so far. I also just got back from attending the openging to my group show at Black Maria in LA. Got to hang out with my brother Ben and went to a Halloween party courtesy of Michael Hsiung... who's an amazing guy! Had a blast.

I've also posted a couple new prints on my Etsy Store. One of them is from the recent show at Black Maria called "The Flood Brings Curious Encounter." Really love that piece. And I'm also releasing one of the pieces from Blab! #19 as a print also which is a real treat. I just got permission from them today to use one of the pieces called, "A Noble Leader Exiled, Hornless and Shamed." Awesome!

I finally worked out a place in Portland so I'll be leaving by the middle of next week. Hoorah! Three cheers for rented property to live in. So I got a lot of preparing to do before the big trek though the madness these united states.

One order of business is to lighten up my load a bit so I'm not wrestling a bunch of boxes in the cab of my truck. I'm going to try and skinny up my print stock if possible so from now until the week I move, I'm going to include a small $35 print when you buy one of the larger prints... a little 2 for 1 action. If you do buy a print this week, please let me know by email which one of the little guys you want and I'll have it over to you pronto with it's bigger buddy. Plus you'll have the added satisfaction of putting gas in my truck and sparing me horrible horrible scenarios of being stranded, crying and scared in the middle of nowhere. I imagine it would be like the show Lost but without the extremely attractive people on a beach part and instead just full of angry people beating me about the face and taking all my shit. That wouldn't be a fun trip at all.

Speaking of Etsy, I've switched over there recently. It's mostly out of my own laziness and complete hatred of writing HTML every time I wanted to update my site. I'm actually thinking of just linking my "Paintings" section over to my Flickr page. Man, updating my new work drives me even more crazy. Sizing, resizing, jpegs, checking links... ugh! Fuck it. I'd rather spend all day painting than doing all that. Even typing about updating my site made my hands sweat and i felt a bit of puke rise up from my stomach. So yeah, it's probably gonna happen sooner than later.

Also, I'm deciding right now if I should make some t shirts or not. I've got a design ready to go but I'm going to take a little consensus and see what the demand would be for some custom shirts. Let me know what you think with a comment if you can. Should I do it?

My Neglected Child of a Blog

I'm sorry Blog... I've left you hanging in the wind stirring in the dark. And there's so much to tell! Let me get you up to speed.

Last Friday, the Blab! Show opened at Copro-Nason Gallery in Los Angeles. From what I can tell, it was a huge success and quite a blast. I wish I could've made it over there for the opening, but I'm stuck here working and still trying to figure out how to get over to Portland. Moving across the country is tough business especially when finances like mine come in strange and unpredictable ways. Anyways, here's a link to the Blab! Also opening at Jonathan LeVine Gallery was the Panorama Project curated by Jordin Isip and Rodger Stevens. Over 129 artists participated and all the pieces share the same horizon line creating a long continuous pieces of awesomeness. Check out all the work here:

And now my next show is rapidly approaching and the neglect begins again. The show is called "the Wonder" and is opening at Black Maria Gallery in Los Angeles on October 17th, 2008 with Ben Kehoe and Hiro Kurata. And as an added crazy amazing bonus, Michael Hsiung is having a solo in the gallery on the same night. How cool is that? Should be a humdinger of a show and I'll definitely be there for that one.

I've added a new print to my Shop from my most recent show at Gallery 1988 San Francisco. I really like this new creature and I'm sure she'll pop up again in the near future. I'm now at work on my upcoming group show at Black Maria in Los Angeles that opens on October 1st. Very excited for this show and I get to share it with my brother Ben and Hiro Kurata.

I'm also in the process of moving out west. I'm most likely going to end up in Portand, Oregon... it's a place I've always wanted to check out. I'm not getting any younger so I feel like it's the right time to pack it up and give it a try. I have to be out of here in August so things are rapidly approaching and getting slightly out of control. Woah! So if any of you Portland people got any inside scoops on some apartments, please let me know. I'll be heading out that way in a couple weeks to scope out some living possibilities so hopefully I can find something. Man, I love Pittsburgh and I'll miss it here. But I'm excited to be in a new environment and I think it'll be pretty inspiring.

New Prints for Tax Season

Well, I was sitting on my porch having a well earned smoke break, and I noticed the buds are growing in on the trees... yes. Leaves are coming and coming soon. Thank God. Thank God spring is coming. I'm enjoying winters less and less as I get older. The first snow is nice and beautiful and all, but after that... Over it. So welcome Spring! I've missed you.

I finally got around to replacing those sold out prints amongst the tax madness. I added a couple smaller $35 prints so that's fun.

Updates from the Steel City

So just a general update and a get to know me post... but if you get too close I'll just push you away. It's a defense mechanism and it's not my fault... it's not my fault.
I'm working right now on a contribution to Blab! by fantagraphics which is fucking sweet. I used to read those at the comic shop and got so excited by all the art that decorated those pages. It was one of my first introductions to some of my favorite artists and a constant source of inspiration. . Weird thing is, I actually made a mock proposal to Monte Beauchamp, the editor of Blab!, in my "art business" class at Parsons asking to be in the book... but never sent it. Then one day a few months back, I got an email from Monte asking me to be in the next issue and the clouds parted and god reached down and put a sugar-coated gumdrop in my mouth. So it's awesome to actually be involved in it.
Also, I'm included in the new art issue of Trace Magazine. I believe it's issue 81. Anyways, there's a bunch of really great artist included in the issue, so you should check it out. You can also download a digital PDF version of the issue on their website.

I also have some shows coming up this year. The first is a group show coming up in July at Gallery 1988 SF. I only have a couple pieces going out there... but that won't keep from from coming to San Fran for the opening. Any excuse to go out there is a good one. Get a burrito or two.
I have a three-person show with my brother Ben and the awesome Hiro Kurata. I know Hiro from my Parsons days, and he's still one of my favorite artists out there. The show will be opening in October at Black Maria Gallery in Los Angeles.
And after all that, I have only two shows in 2009 and they're both solo shows. Sweet. The first is going to be at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York and in December I'll be showing with ThinkSpace in LA. That should be an amazing year!

So after many many countless and fruitless attempts to get my website back from those ass-licking scoundrels at PagesGarden (my web and domain servers) I've given up. They broke me. I am a broken man. I came across a customer review section of good 'ol PagesGarden... and they were not good reviews. They were horrible and frightening. There were a number of people that wrote reviews that were in my same situation and never got replies after months of trying. Wow. So I decided just to put a fork in it and begin a new site. Unfortunately, now I have to inform everyone that had my old web address and email that I've had to change. That fucking blows. So BEWARE!! Stay away from PagesGarden if you plan on putting up a website. They did quite a number on me. Anyways, for all those that find this, my new website address is

Shit! My Domain Expired!!!

Oh god... somehow my domain expired and my website is a no go. I thought I paid it but I guess that was a foolish assumption. Well, I just paid to renew it and it's not doing much still. I've had a good number of people ask me if I had prints of this particular piece and damn it all, I gave in. I hope you're happy... I'm happy about it. So I mean that sincerely. I think these acorn guys will be running about nimbly wimbly in upcoming pieces as well so keep an eye out. I'm now getting prepared for my trip to Chicago next week. I have a friend in Chicago that says he feels like the wind is punching him in the face with cold, leather gloves... in so many words. My god. Plus it's supposed to snow that weekend so driving there should be great fun. Pray for me.

New Show February 29th... Leap Year Wildness

Hello Hello. Sorry so long for an update, but I've been hard at work for this here show. It's a two person, one-family crackerjack extravaganza featuring myself and my brother Ben... well, not so much an extravaganza... just an art show called "The Safest Place in the World." It's great to have a show with my hermano and the show's shaping up to be a dandy. So if any of you are in the Chicago area, you should drop on by and we'll talk about Chicago things.

Jonathan Viner Opening This Weekend

Jonathan Viner (Weiner) is having a solo exhibit opening this Saturday at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York. It should be a great show and anyone in the area should check it out... even I'm driving up to New York from Pittsburgh to drop in on the excitement. And there's sure to be a Viner/Kehoe dance battle at some point, so be sure to stick around for the after party as well. Hopefully he doesn't put my into the Royce Gracie arm bar, pretzel death grapple maneuver that I've heard of him using every now and again... and from what I know, no one's ever escaped that move... yet.

2012

So I heard the world's supposed to end in 2012 according to the Aztec calender or something.... oh wait, just checked and it's the Mayan calender. Whew, almost blew it there. Anyways, not sure if I'm ready for all that mayhem... it's only four years away! That's like going to college, but at the end of four years you don't get a diploma, instead you get a comet in the face, or an alien death ray and everyone dies or explodes or something world-ending like that. I told my sister I'm part of an alien species that's here to scope out all the sensible people in the world and leave all the fundamentalist nutbags here to enact out Revelations chapter by chapter... god knows they've been patiently waiting for it. Wow, come to think of it, that would be almost the opposite of Rapture. But she's extremely frightened of aliens so I think she'd rather stay in Armageddon... that's just crazy. We'll get her to come with us.
There are a lot of really amusing end of the world scenarios out there. Like the one called the Singularity theory where ground breaking discoveries and inventions are made in rapidly spiraling succession until at the end, like 30 major breakthroughs are made in one second and it propels humankind into a new realm of enlightenment! Or something like that. What an orgy of technology and innovation that will be in that final second of human existence! Can imagine that last group of scientists together going nuts?? "Woah! Look what I - Look what you- Woah!! Wooooah!" FLASH! Then after that, who knows? Some say we reach a new plane of understanding with the universe and burst into light beams, or we meld with our computers and evolve with technology into a whole new species. i dont't know... but I kind of like having a body. But this isn't supposed to happen until around 2030 so I'll probably be old and broken by then. Fuck it. I'll live in a computer or bust into stardust. I just hope to get at least one robotic limb before I go.

2008 Here We Come

Happy New Year! Well... almost anyways. Here's the postcard for my next group show coming up at ThinkSpace Gallery in Los Angeles. It's only hanging for 3 days, so for god's sake get in on the action while you can. I've got one piece hanging in the show and it marks a milestone for me. It's the first piece where I've started to use oil paints on top of the usual acrylic paints, and I'm pretty excited about the new possibilities here. It's a whole new world and I'm digging it... and adjusting to the drying time. I'll be posting the piece up after the show opens, so be sure to check back. So I hope everyone has a safe and eventful New Years Eve and if anyone blacks out, that they make it home ok without incident... well, bad incidents I mean. Sexy and somewhat shameful incidents are fully encouraged.

Awesome, besides that I'm going to be putting a piece into the "Fight for Flight" group show at ThinkSpace opening January 4th 2008. Holy cow... 2008. It benefits the Animal Protection Institute and it's right in time to celebrate National Bird Day. Sweet! I didn't even know there was a National Bird Day but I'm liking it... what other days are out there I don't know about? National Wombat Day would be nice. National Drink Bourbon and Hear What an Idiot You Were The Next Day Day. Always a good one. National Sidney Crosby Day. Oh yeah! Now we're talking.

A New Era

Hi Everyone! So I've decided to move my News section over to Blogspot for a couple reasons. Mainly, so I can update on the road... which happens only a couple times a year, but whatever. And also, it's a lot less of a pain in the ass this way and that's always a good thing.

So a couple of things to bring up here. I have started a Flickr account which is pretty exciting. The link for it is on the top right of this here blog if you want to check it out. Also, I'm going to be coming out with some new prints soon to replace the ones that have sold out. Woopee!
